Repurposing
Perhaps there is a piece of furniture that no longer serves a purpose for which it was designed but has an endearing history as was the case with Cindy’s mom’s bookcase.
It was the first piece of furniture her mom bought after striking out on her own in the early 1940’s. With much ingenuity, that old bookcase was taken apart and every inch of wood was repurposed into building 7 trains and 4 smaller milk wagon carts as gifts for family members. The idea of making trains and milk wagons came from Cindy’s mom’s love of trains and her childhood dairy farm years in Wisconsin.
Then there’s the case of an old oak headboard which was repurposed into small keepsake boxes for granddaughters. Not something we did, but an amazing idea which we could duplicate for sure.
